My Spectrum of Support
When thinking of a spectrum, I envision a range of colors. The edges are deep, defined, concrete; the center a beautiful mixture of the qualities and characteristics of its more defined counterparts. For those of us who are deeply touched by individuals on the Autism Spectrum, this definition - this image - holds a face, a name, a feeling.
When I think of the support I have provided to those on the spectrum, I too find my identity in a spectrum - a spectrum of support.
Educator

As an educator, I have been impacted by many students who are on the spectrum. Learning from skilled colleagues, I have attained a vast knowledge of strategies, tools and information to support those on the spectrum.

Through my experiences in the classroom and at home, I have gained a powerful perspective of what support looks like in both roles. As an instructional coach, a professional developer, and a public speaker, I have the opportunity to share this unique journey with others.

My oldest son, Dawson, was identified on the Autism Spectrum shortly after he turned 4 years old. In order to support him - and truly our entire family - my husband and I have informed ourselves on a variety of resources, strategies and tools to support Dawson.
